Microsoft, Capgemini Begin ERP+ Initiative

Microsoft has made its way into the ERP-related headlines once again. This time, the tech giant has partnered with Capgemini to put millions of dollars behind something called the ERP+ Initiative.

Granted, millions of dollars don't represent much to Microsoft - its current market cap is about $256 billion - but it should make a difference where users of ERP solutions are concerned. A press released announced that "ERP + enables companies to combine the power of SAP and ease of use of Microsoft Office and SharePoint technologies, Windows phone and Microsoft Application Platform products."

As a result, they should be able to "[i]ncrease employee access to SAP data from the desktop and mobility devices," "[i]mprove worker productivity by reducing data re-entry and easily automating un-structured business processes," and "[r]educe IT costs by enabling reuse of existing Microsoft software licenses and reduced user training costs."

Not bad, right? Making people do more and spending less are two of the main goals of every business.

It looks like the ERP+ Initiative is designed to persist for quite a while, too, so benefits may sort of trickle in over an extended period of time.

Now it'll just be interesting if Microsoft does something ERP-related again in the near future so as to make it into the next ERPUpdate article.
