Acquisitions can require a whole lot of work; there are all sorts of decisions to make on the subjects of products, services, real estate, and personnel. It's interesting to note, then, that when BSkyB acquired Amstrad, an ERP system from IFS came into play.
Amstrad has 2,700 employees and generated about $362 million in net revenue in 2008, so this deal was no insignificant thing. And according to an official statement, the acquisition might not even have been possible without a little help from the ERP community.
A press release claimed, "The deployment of IFS's ERP system was essential to integrate Amstrad's business and processes into BSkyB and to provide a single platform from which to improve internal efficiencies, allowing for future growth."
Paul Massey, Managing Director of IFS UK, also said, "Amstrad will now experience a more cohesive and unified operation with BSkyB, ultimately enabling the organisation to fulfill customer orders more efficiently. We look forward to helping both Amstrad and BSkyB continue to thrive by providing an enterprise application that fits current requirements and will also evolve to address any future challenges."
If things continue to proceed so swimmingly in this case, it's possible that a lot of other companies will call upon ERP companies when it comes time for them to make acquisitions.
