ERP Implementation Advice

Getting something right on the first try, no matter what the subject, is often very important. Other outcomes mean risking time, money, and even all interest in the product or service. So today, we'd like to present a handful of tips for smoothly implementing ERP systems.

Jaroslav Cerny, the CEO of RBD Consulting, put together a list of five recommendations for IT News Africa. The first suggestion is just to "get executive buy-in," since making sure execs support a measure is an important step in making sure they don't give up on it.

Then Cerny recommended "continuous internal selling" as a natural extension of the first step. Execs aren't the only people in a company, after all, and it's best if everyone backs an ERP implementation.

Next, Cerny suggested that companies do their homework when picking both software solutions and implementation partners.

Finally, he wrote, "Form a strong internal project team . . . . Managing the project internally is important to ensure that it will ultimately meet the business needs of the organisation. For the internal project team to be strong all of the strategic business units should be involved and each strategic business unit (SBU) should allocate at least one person to the project."

This advice is definitely worth keeping in mind if you need to oversee the implementation of a new ERP system.
